Healthcare Professionals

CDF school-based project participants from Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School and Carmel Bunnan Tong Memorial Secondary School had a rare opportunity to visit the North Lantau Hospital at Tung Chung today. They were offered a guided tour led by healthcare staff to visit different departments in the hospital, such as the care wards, accident and emergency department, rest-in-peace home, rehabilitation garden, herb garden for therapeutic horticulture and the greenhouse, so as to learn more about the facilities and operation of the hospital. Participants who aspire to a career in the healthcare sector also seized this opportunity to interact with representatives of different grades and positions in the hospital, hoping that they could get first-hand information to facilitate their future development.

"This activity has deepened my understanding of the healthcare profession and changed the stereotypical image of hospitals in my mind. For example, I originally thought that places like the wards and mortuary were full of the sense of pressure, just like that depicted in a film. After visiting these places, I came to know that they are in fact no different from ordinary offices which are bright and tidy. Moreover, the full range of advanced supporting equipment in the accident and emergency department has indeed opened my eyes and enhanced my interest in joining the healthcare profession. I have really benefited a great deal from the visit today."

"I usually go to Tung Chung for visiting my relatives but today my aim is to visit the North Lantau Hospital which is equipped with advanced facilities. I am so happy to have the chance of seeing a wide range of medical equipment in the hospital, which I haven't seen before. Taking the large-sized medical instruments in the accident and emergency department as an example, it seemed that they could not be easily operated. I am also impressed by the wards with 'seaview' here. I think patients receiving treatment in such a nice environment will recover very quickly."
