Over 70 social workers and teachers from CDF projects have completed training through attending the Financial Literacy Trainers’ Workshop conducted by the Investor Education Centre (IEC). They have become financial literacy trainers who will organise activities and training sessions to train CDF project participants, their parents and mentors in financial literacy. Last year, the IEC conducted three workshops for a total of 34 CDF project operators and schools to equip them with the knowledge, teaching strategies and tools to improve participants’ financial literacy, thereby helping children participating in CDF projects take their first step towards financial literacy and develop good habits as well as a positive attitude towards financial management.

Each workshop was divided into two sessions. The first session was focused on teaching the attendees how to make use of the teaching kit designed for organising seminars on improving Parents’ and Mentors’ Financial Literacy. It covered practical information on topics such as: “How to teach project participants to devise financial arrangements for further education and employment?”, “How much pocket money and when?”, “What should parents do if children ask them to buy things?”, “How to teach your children to draw up a financial plan?” and “How to protect your children against frauds?”. During the second session, attendees learned how to teach project participants the concepts of financial management through board games. Each attendee was also provided with a set of financial literacy teaching materials which would be conducive to the organisation of experiential learning activities and training on financial literacy for project participants, their parents and mentors.

CDF project operators and schools interested in attending the Financial Literacy Trainers’ Workshop are welcome to contact the Child Development Fund Office or the Investor Education Centre for further information.
